Hello Students here is your lesson!

STEM LESSON IN HONOR OF EASTER!

Do Eggs Sink or Float?

Begin a discussion by asking the children a few questions to get them thinking. What kinds of animals do you know lay eggs? What do eggs look like? Have you ever seen a chicken lay an egg?

Brainstorm with your family words that describe what an egg looks like and feels like.

There are two ways that animals have babies, born live from their mother (mammals: an animal that breathes air, has a backbone, and grows hair at some point during its life), and by laying eggs. Some animals that lay eggs are birds, amphibians, reptiles, fish, insects and spiders. Fun fact, the Platypus and Echidna (“spiny anteaters”) are the only mammals who lay eggs!

  1. Watch Ms. Halley do a simple experiment using salt, water, and raw eggs.

Hello Everyone! Here’s your lesson!

PALM SUNDAY

This coming Sunday, April 5, is Palm Sunday.  This is the day Jesus, riding on a donkey, entered the city of Jerusalem.  The people of Jerusalem had heard of the many amazing things he had done (miracles) and said.  They lined the roadway so they could see Jesus and shout his praises.  They were very excited as they waved palm branches and shouted “Hosanna!!!!!”.

Watch and listen to Mrs. Castillo read the story of Palm Sunday today in her video.

*Discuss with your preschooler:  (Preschoolers like to answer questions)

  • “Who was in the story?” Jesus
  • “Where was Jesus going?” To Jerusalem
  • “What was Jesus riding on?” A donkey
  • “What did the people shout?” Hosanna
  • “What were the people holding?” Palm branches

*Draw the outline of a palm branch and brainstorm “praise words” to use with your family and friends.  (Like:  “cool”  “great”…)

*Try to imagine how you would feel watching Jesus ride by you.

*Palm Craft for the kids:

*FOR MORE DETAILED SIMPLE EXPLANATIONS AND INFORMATION ABOUT PALM SUNDAY…GO TO

Hello Students! Here is your lesson!

Today is Second Step: LET’S BE PATIENT!
Lesson:
Your child is learning how to wait. We need to teach our children this important skill that will help your child in many life situations at home and at school. By doing this, feelings of frustration, anger, even confusion will be less frequent as they develop this important life skill.
Project: Make a fruit salad together and talk about patience. Both of you, the caregiver and the student must use only butter knives to cut the fruit today. Demonstrate to them how difficult it is for you to cut an apple with a butterknife, but because you are being patient it’s going to be ok. If tell you to use the regular knife, you will say: “ I want to see how patient I am.” Children learn by example. They will love this!

***St. John School Fruit Salad***

Ingredients:
Favorite yogurt, fruit (let them choose), and cereal!
Watch this story about a little bumblebee who doesn’t  know how to be patient.

LANGUAGE ARTS SOUND OF THE WEEK

If you have an alphabet book or poster that features upper and lowercase letters it would be very helpful.  Every Monday we practice letter names and sounds.  Have your child point out letter names starting with “Aaa says Aaa”, “Bbb says Bbb”…and name an object that begins with each sound.  We often stop at the sound we are focusing on each week.  Sometimes we go all the way to Z.

LANGUAGE ARTS SOUND OF THE WEEK

This week the children will work on letter sound “r”.

Print a bubble letter lowercase “r “for your child to cut and decorate using ribbon, rice etc. or anything you have available beginning with the “r” sound.

Have your child name other things that begin with “r” throughout the week and write a list of them.  Have your child count how many words they have named.

We thought a fun activity for the children this week would be building robots using things you have at home.
(I used toilet paper rolls, screws, buttons….)  Please take a picture of your child and the robot they made and send it to us.  We love seeing the pictures you have sent to us.  We can post them so the children can see their friends and the robots they have made!

EXTRAS:  Cutting pictures out of magazines or catalogs and making a collage of a sound is fun.  Do a scavenger hunt looking for things around the house that begin with the letter sound is also fun.

STEM LESSONIN HONOR OF THIS WEEKS SOUND OF THE WEEK “R” LET’S FIND OUT:

How Are Rainbows Made?

Begin a discussion by asking the children a few questions to get them thinking. “Have you ever seen a rainbow in the sky? Was it on a rainy day? What did it look like? Can you name the colors?

Rainbows are formed when light shines through water, like when the sun shines through the rain. This light is bent and reflected, like a reflection in a mirror, and this causes all of the amazing colors that you see.  Stripes of the rainbow are colors of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo (blue-red) and violet (red-blue). Sometimes two rainbows can be observed.  A rainbow is really a circle and has no end.

1.Try this simple experiment below to observe a mini rainbow!

Use a mirror in water. Place a small mirror in a glass or water. Place the glass of water so the sun will shine on the mirror. Turn the glass until the rainbow is reflected against the wall. Find the colors of the rainbow.

Hello Students! Here is your lesson for today!

RELIGION

JESUS BLESSES THE CHILDREN
Introduction
Children are born with the capacity to love however,  they need the experience of being loved if they are to become loving people.  Given enough loving attention from families, friends and even teachers children come to see themselves as worthy people who have something to contribute.
We want our preschoolers to know how much Jesus loves them which is dramatized in this story.  Taking the children in his arms, he embraces and blesses them.  These are tangible acts of love that children know and understand.  They help children see Jesus as someone real and loving.
  1.  Read the story below to your preschooler or read it from a children’s bible you have at home.

The Story:

One day, after Jesus had been teaching people about God, some mothers started bringing their babies and little children to Jesus.

“Jesus,” one of the mothers asked, “you are such a good teacher. Will you please place your hand on my child’s head and give her a blessing?”

Jesus was very happy to bless the little children. He loved children.

But the disciples saw all of the mothers and children around Jesus and they thought they were bothering him. They knew that Jesus must have been very tired from teaching all the adults. Surely he wouldn’t want to spend time with all of these children! So the disciples began telling the mothers and children to go away and leave Jesus alone.

Jesus saw what the disciples were doing and he did not like it. That just wasn’t fair to the children! Jesus told the disciples to stop, “Shame on you, stop telling the children they cannot come to me.”

The disciples saw that Jesus was displeased so they let the children and mothers come to Jesus. They were surprised that Jesus loved the children so much. They probably thought he only wanted to spend time with adults like them.

After Jesus spent time with the children, he told the disciples something very important. “See these little children? See how they love me? They don’t brag or try to hurt anyone like some adults do. The kingdom of heaven is made for people who have hearts like little children.”

The disciples were very surprised. They were sorry they had kept the children away from Jesus. Now they knew that Jesus thought children were very important. If Jesus loved the little children then so would they.

2.Discuss the story with questions like:

*How do you think the children felt when the apostle told them not to bother Jesus?

*How do you think the children felt when Jesus said, “Let the children come to me”?

*Jesus loves us and wants us to share our love.  How can we do that?

3.  Sing the classic JESUS LOVES ME.

Jesus loves me this I know for the Bible tells me so.

Little ones to Him belong.  Some are weak and some are strong.

Yes Jesus loves me, Yes Jesus loves me, Yes Jesus loves me.  The Bible tells me so.

4.  Make a big heart on a sheet of paper and draw you and all of your family inside!

Using things you already have (buttons, crayons, pennies, twigs…) make groups of ten.

When counting talk about and show them 2 tens is 20, 3 tens is 30 up to 100 or beyond.  It can be a great discovery for them.

Whatever you do or create have fun doing it.  We miss all the fun times we have with your children at school!

This is a great website for math activities:

DAILY LESSON

(20 MINUTES)

JOURNAL WRITING

Each week have your child make a picture of something they

have enjoyed doing during the week.  Have them dictate their

words for you to write down.  Create a journal of these for

your child to bring to school when we return.  We will have

your child share their experiences with their classmates

throughout the remainder of the  year!

DAILY LESSON

(20 MINUTES)

LANGUAGE ARTS SOUND OF THE WEEK

If you have an alphabet book or poster that features upper and lowercase letters it would be very helpful.  Every Monday we practice letter names and sounds.  Have your child point out letter names starting with “Aaa says Aaa”, “Bbb says Bbb”…and name an object that begins with each sound.  We often stop at the sound we are focusing on each week.  Sometimes we go all the way to Z.

1.Make a bubble letter each week (similar to the letters your child has been bringing home) so they can continue with our sound projects.

2.This week’s sound is “Qq”.  We suggest your child could glue qtips on the q and name two other objects beginning with that sound.

EXTRAS:  Cutting pictures out of magazines or catalogs and making a collage of a sound is fun.  Do a scavenger hunt looking for things around the house that begin with the letter sound is also fun.
